Today the Southern Pines Fire Department received its initial inspection by the North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM) for Fire Station #2. This inspection was to verify that the department along with the new station meets the minimum requirements to extend its public protection classification rating.
The Southern Pines Fire Department currently has a Public Protection Classification insurance rating of a Class-4. This classification will now be applied to areas that were previously within the municipal limits but more that 5 miles from Fire Station #1. These are mainly residents in the Fire Station #2 area of Southern Pines.
The new rating may take up to 90 days to be published by the Insurances Services Office and available to insurance companies. Residents in these areas should contact their insurance company and see if they will be affected by the new lower rating.
