Have your children been dreaming about summer? It's here, and it's a time to keep children dreaming with reading at the Southern Pines Public Library!
Children work hard during the school year and they are learning a lot. Despite that work, they can lose what they learn during breaks and summer. When that happens, they return to school behind.
This summer, we want to help children participating in the Summer Reading Program maintain what they learned over the summer—and that’s where parents come in. This summer our staff will be providing you with easy tips and information to support your child’s learning throughout the summer.
Did you know?
• Over the summer, students can lose up to three months of knowledge from the previous grade.
• Children who read books over the summer can maintain or improve their reading skills.
• Nine in ten teachers spend at least three weeks re-teaching lessons at the start of the school year.
So get ready! In addition to reading challenges in the Summer Reading Program, the Library offers creative hands-on programs for all ages during the summer.
The Library is the place to support students being ready to learn what’s next in school!
