[ARCHIVED] TOWN TREE REPLACEMENT PROJECT FOR 2019

Tree

Southern Pines, NC – Beginning February 18, 2019 (weather permitting), the Town will continue the enhancement of the downtown area by removing twenty-two (22) failing, unsafe elm, oak and maple trees and planting twenty-two (22) new elm, maple and oak trees. The work will occur in the 100 block of NE Broad Street, the 200 Block of SW Broad Street, and the 200 Block of NW Broad Street. The Town has contracted with Colonial Landscaping to complete both removal and replanting by March 1, 2019. This work is similar to and an extension of the tree replacement project conducted by the Town last winter with the replacement of many street trees in the downtown, primarily the 200 block of NE Broad Street.

Southern Pines is honored to be one of the few small towns in the United States to receive the Tree City USA Award since 1980 and this project is another example of the continued effort to provide trees in the Town. This work is a coordinated effort between Town staff and the Town’s Appearance Commission. We appreciate your patience as the work progresses and if you have any questions or concerns please contact Assistant Town Manager Chris Kennedy.
