Tired
of small talk? Try some big talk!
In
a world dominated by politicized talk and social media posts, it often seems
like there’s been a decline in respectful conversation. This Library series is an
opportunity to engage, listen, and learn from others.
On October 14, 2018, eight strangers entered a room at the Southern Pines Public Library for the first session of Conversation Café. Each brought a different perspective, viewpoint and background to the table for a 90-minute dialog. The topic for the first session was Countries, Cultures, and Connections:
How do they come together to influence our lives? Attendees participated in a wide-ranging discussion, touching on identity, travel, heritage and more.
The Conversation Café will continue with sessions at 3:00 p.m. on the following Sundays: Dec. 9, Feb. 10, April 14 and June 9. The topic for December is Traditions: How does the past
shape our present and influence our future? Participants in the Café will choose future topics. Anyone interested in this
opportunity to listen, reflect, and share ideas in the community is welcome to
join.
