[ARCHIVED] Library Updates Teen Lounge

Device-Charging Bike in Library Teen Lounge Area

Teens looking for a place to study will find brand new, interactive furniture in the Library’s Teen Lounge.

Sit in comfortable reading chairs that sway and rock and prop your feet up on colorful, hexagonal ottomans. High-top tables with built in outlets boast a whiteboard surface, perfect for working out equations or writing messages to friends. A long ovular table now fills the bay window, where sun-soaked study sessions await. Bright orange zen ball chairs provide an opportunity to work the wiggles out; these stools feature an exercise ball covered with sturdy webbing, sitting atop stable metal feet. Perhaps the most unusual and stand-out feature is a bright red, stationary bike, funded by the Friends of the Library. But it’s more than just a way to work out; plug your phone into the USB port on a small desk attached to the handlebars and watch your battery power grow the more you pedal.

The new-and-improved Teen Lounge is part of the Library’s efforts to provide a safe, welcoming space for teens and tweens to hang out, study and learn.
