[ARCHIVED] Architectural Survey of West Southern Pines

WestSouthernPinesDraft_1.25

March 2026 Update
The Architectural Survey of West Southern Pines is now complete by the Town’s contracted consultants at HMW Preservation. The project was funded through a 2022 Underrepresented Communities Grant from the National Park Service’s Federal Historic Preservation Fund.

The survey documents approximately 250 historic resources in the historically African American community of West Southern Pines. Prior to this effort, only eighteen properties in the area had been formally documented through earlier architectural surveys.

As part of the project, National Register of Historic Places nominations were prepared for Our Lady of Victory Catholic Parish, Trinity AME Zion Church, and the Amos Broadway Building. Each of these landmarks has now been listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

The completed survey expands the public record of West Southern Pines’ architectural and cultural history and will support future preservation planning efforts.
