[ARCHIVED] CLRP Growth Choices Workshop 1/26

Growth Choices Workshop website

On January 26, 2023, the Town of Southern Pines will host a Growth Choices Workshop to share conceptual scenarios for future growth. We need your feedback to better understand how residents want to see the town evolve and grow.

This is a drop-in style event at the E.S. Douglass Community Center and will be open from 6-8 pm. it is designed as an opportunity to learn about and provide feedback on different scenarios for growth, development, and preservation, and the related key decision points important to planning for the Town’s future. We have high-energy, hands-on interactions planned with the project team.

The new Southern Pines CLRP relies on scenario planning. In order to do that, we need to evaluate different options for the community, measure their impacts, and evaluate the trade-offs for fulfilling a shared vision and guiding principles for the comprehensive plan.

The process starts at the same place – with an existing conditions analysis to know where the Town stands today. It also ends at the same place – with a future land use map to include in the CLRP document. Everything in between is flexible. Six alternative futures will be presented at the workshop, which build on the thoughts, ideas, and opinions expressed so far in the comprehensive planning process.

Ultimately, our goal for scenario planning to support the comprehensive plan is simple: The scenario planning process and the choices it considers should empower the community with more information, and more confidence, to make decisions about its future.

Participants at the in-person event on January 26, 2023, will interact with project team members directly. An online survey will be used at the end of the workshop to collect feedback and will remain open for one month following the event to collect additional input and feedback.
