General Statute Article 21, Chapter 143-215C requires that the owner or operator of any wastewater collection or treatment works to issue a press release when an untreated wastewater discharge of 1,000 gallons or more reaches surface waters.

In accordance with that regulation, the following news release has been prepared and issued to media in the affected county: “The Town of Southern Pines (Moore County) had a discharge of untreated wastewater on 12/20/21 of an estimated 10,600 gallons along the greenway trail west of NC Hwy 22.  The untreated wastewater was discharged into Mill Creek.  The Town Utilities Division was notified of the event at approximately 1:30 p.m.  All efforts to mitigate wastewater release were taken.  Repairs were completed and system returned to service at approximately 3:30 p.m., and cleanup/sanitizing efforts were conducted.”

For further information, please call TOSP Public Works at (910) 692-1983, during normal work hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
