Early Childhood Programs

Baby Rhymes

Baby Rhymes is specially designed for the youngest learners (birth-2) and their caregivers. Repetition and comforting movements make this storytime perfect for early development and brain growth. Tuesdays at 10:30 am, with a duplicate session at 11:00 a.m.  An active library card is required for this program.

SPARK Storytime

This is our Baby Rhymes storytime for birth-2 years old offered in the afternoon with the chance to see fire trucks! SPARK Storytime is held at Fire Station 82, 7850 NC 22 Hwy, Carthage, NC 28327. Tuesdays at 2:30 pm.

Music and Motion

Does your 2-5 year old like to move and groove? Join us for Music and Motion to get those wiggles out! Thursdays at 10:30am and 3:30 pm.  An active library card is required for this program. 

Children's Programs

At The Library After School (ATLAS)

ATLAS is an after-school program for K-2nd graders. Perfect for kids who still enjoy listening to stories and can participate in brief, small-group discussion. Supplies for a related activity will be provided and can be worked on at your own pace within the children’s area or brought home. Check our Program Calendar for upcoming dates.

STEAM Sunday                                                                                                                                                                                                                              Elementary-aged children and their caregivers are invited to explore topics in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. Participate in STEAM projects and activities that you can recreate at home. Held monthly on a Sunday at 2:30 pm. Please check our Program Calendar for upcoming dates and topics.

ecoEXPLORE

ecoEXPLORE is a program for kids in K-8th grade that encourages them to make scientific observations in a fun way. Using smartphones or tablets, kids can make observations that scientists can use in their own research and also earn points and prizes at the same time! As a LoanSpot, the Southern Pines Public Library offers Loanpacks, which are filled with nature science equipment. Patrons can check out these backpacks to assist them in making observations. In-person book clubs are back! If you love reading and discussing amazing books, join one of our fantastic library book clubs! Check the library's online calendar to view upcoming book club dates.

  • Read Between the Pines, SPPL's evening book club for adults, meets on the third Thursday of the month at 5:30 p.m. Read Between the Pines meets at the Southern Pines Public Library, located at 170 W. Connecticut Ave. Contact mhoward@sppl.net for more information.
  • The Douglass Center Book Club meets on the last Thursday of the month at 10:30 a.m. at the Douglass Community Center. The Douglass Community Center is located at 1185 W. Pennsylvania Ave. For more information, contact mmiller@sppl.net.

Physical copies of book club titles will be available for checkout from the Library, and extra copies of eBook and eAudiobook editions will be available through NCDL on the first of the month. Reserve your copy online or by phone and join the fun! 

Writer’s Group

Calling writers and illustrators: Are you interested in creating fiction, nonfiction, poetry, or comics? Come to the Sunday Afternoon Writing Group! Connect with other writers and artists, chat about your craft, and get feedback about your work. All levels welcome. Writer's Group meets one Sunday per month from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m., at the Southern Pines Public Library. To join, email lholden@sppl.net.

Ice House Entrepreneurial Mindset Course
