Tumblebooks FUN
Check out what's new at the Southern Pines Public Library: TumbleBooks!
Designed for everyone from infants to teenagers, this new form of “entertainment-education” helps kids discover the joy of reading by introducing books in a format they love - electronic story books. Tumblebooks combines the tradition of a good storyline with animation, sound, music, and narration in different formats:story books, online audio books, interactive games, puzzles, and quizzes. Age-appropriate selections range from easy readers to chapter books, young adult selections, non-fiction titles, Spanish and French language learners, and 60 foreign language titles in Spanish, French, Russian, and Chinese. Week of the Young Child - April 13-19, 2008
The Southern Pines Public Library would like to invite you to a Children's Book Festival in celebration of Week of the Young Child (PDF). We will have a book swap on Wednesday, April 16, 2008, from 10:30-11:30 am. Bring an old children's book from home or one your child does not read anymore, and pick up a "new" book. After you have swapped, join us for a story. Our goal is to increase literacey experiences for young children and to follow this year's slogan: "Bring Communities Together for Chidren - Children Bring Communities Together."
Dia - Children's Day
On Wednesday, April 30, 2008 the library presents Dia (PDF), an annual celebration promoting literacy and the importantce of linking children to books, languages, and cutlures. Join in storytime and other activities from 10:30-11:30 am. Expose your child to the global possibilities that can be found in each story.
Santa at the Library
Everyone enjoyed seeing Santa at the Library (PDF) on Saturday, December 1, 2007. Thanks for visiting the library, Santa!
Library Holiday Program
The library's annual Holiday Program (PDF) on December 4 was a huge success. We enjoyed stories, a puppet show, crafts, and fun songs with Mr. Bob. Thanks to the Teen Advisory Board for helping!

Time to get the clues and solve a mystery! Saturday Afternoon at the Movies presents "Nancy Drew" (PDF) on Saturday, May 3rd from 2-4 pm. BYOP (Bring Your Own Pillow) and we'll provide the popcorn!
There was laughter and much cheering for the little guys at the presentation of "Hoot"(PDF) on January 12, 2008.
On Saturday, October 13, 2007, outer space was in when the library presented the movie "Zathura"(PDF).
Popcorn helped to make "Night at the Museum"(PDF), starring Ben Stiller and Dick Van Dyke on Saturday, May 19, 2007, from 2-4 in the library, less scary and definitely more fun.
The popcorn was much preferred to fried worms for "How to Eat Fried Worms"(PDF) on Saturday, March 17, 2007, from 3 to 4:45 pm.
Children in grades 3-5 warmed up at the library on Saturday, January 20, 2007 when the library presented the movie "Eight Below"(PDF) from 2-4 pm in the multi-purpose room.

Developed by the Public Library Association in conjunction with the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, Every Child Ready to Read is designed to give parents and caregivers tools they can use to help their children learn important pre-reading skills that will make it easier for them when they start school.
