Explorations: A Forum for Adults
An ongoing lecture and discussion series for adults, featuring a variety of informative and entertaining speakers who are experts in their field. Programs are held on Sunday afternoons from 3:00 to 4:00 pm and are free and open to the public. The series is sponsored by Friends of Southern Pines Public Library.

At the Spring Plant Exchange (PDF) on Sunday, April 13, Moore County Master Gardener Dolores Muller was on hand to answer questions and dish the “dirt” on gardening in the Sandhills. She also gave a presentation on drought tolerant plants.

Losing a child is devastating; losing a child to suicide, even more so. Iris Angle walked, cycled and journaled her way across the country in order to work through her grief and to create a lasting tribute to her son Eric. A group heard her story on February 10, 2008, in a "A Walk to Remember: One Mother's Legacy" (PDF).

On Sunday, January 27, 2008, the library presented "Life Begins at 60!" (PDF) This program was presented by Southern Pines resident, Ernie Hanford, and Senior Events Coordinator for the Southern Pines Recreation Department, Rynet Oxendine. Hanford, who is 86, is something of an expert! In addition to being a Library volunteer, he contributes his time at the Convention and Visitor's Bureau, the AARP, and the Southern Pines Fire Department. He is also a SHIIP (Senior Health Insurance Information Program) advisor for Medicare and has received the Governor's Award for Volunteering.
