Coaches Corner
All league teams in Southern Pines Recreation Sports Programs are dependent upon having adult managers and assistant coaches to provide instruction, leadership, and coordinating team practices. Their knowledge, time and efforts make a difference in our youth's experience while participating in team sports. Become a Volunteer Coach or Coach Helper and experience with your child the fun and excitement of youth sports and competition. Join the team - print out the form(s) listed below and return to Southern Pines Recreation Department 482 E. Connecticut Avenue, Southern Pines, NC 28387 today! (must be 16 years of age or older). Coach's will need to fill out both forms.

32nd Annual Autumnfest
Join us in Downtown Park in Southern Pines for great family fun at the 32nd Annual Autumnfest. The festival will be held 9:00 to 4:00 pm and will feature crafts, concessions, local entertainment, youth activites, and foot races - 1 mile fun run/walk and 5K run. Races begin at 9:30 a.m. and 9:50 a.m. Pre-registration fee is $10 (until 9/24/10) and includese the official Autumnfest t-shirts; race day registration is $15.

Fall Machine Pitch Baseball League
Want to learn to throw and hit a baseball? This league is for 6-8 year olds (age as of August 1, 2009) and puts fun first. Emphasis is on fundamentals, teamwork, sportsmanship, and fun. A very good league for those coming out of T-Ball and planning to play Optimist Ball next Spring. Games will be on Mondays and Wednesday evenings, with practices on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.

Youth Golf Lessons
Golf is a sport you can play for a lifetime. Golf Professional, Kevin Taylor will teach at Knollwood Fairways the Fall lessons. Class emphasis is on basics of golf. Lessons are co-sponsored by Knollwood Fairways.
Junior Golf clubs are available for check out at the Campbell House.

Youth Tennis Lessons
(Ages 7 - 15)
Do you know what Love, Foot Fault, Deuce and Rushing the net mean? These are tennis terms that your chil will learn; in addition to learning a fun sport that offers both fitness and competition. Youth Beginner and Intermediate Tennis Sessions will be offered this spring and summer with 5 fifty minute lessons per session. Lessons are Co-Sponsored by Sandhills Tennis Associaton and taught at Southern Pines Downtown Park Tennis Courts.

Basketball "Hoop It Up" Summer League
(Ages 10-16 - age as of Oct. 16, 2010)
Its summer thime and the Southern Pines Recreation Center gym is the court to play your best summer basketball. Leagues are for boys and girls, ages 10-16 years old. Practices and games will be week nights.
We need volunteer coaches!!! If interested go to the top of this page for a form, fill out and take to the Recreation Office at the Campbell House (482 E. Connecticut Avenue, Southern Pines).
Pre-registration is required.

Little Tyke Indoor Soccer
(Ages 4 & 5)
Run, Kick and Score! Indoor Soccer is a great program for boys and girls to develop coordination skills like running, kicking and passing a soccer ball. They will learn how to play together as a team and meet new friends. This league is co-sponsored with Sandhills Celtic Soccer Club. Players must provide their own shin guards and gym shoes. League play will emphasize fun, and learning the basic fundamentals of soccer.

Youth Tackle Football
(Ages 10 - 12 as of Aug 1, 2010)
If it's late summer-early fall; it is time again to play FOOTBALL! Emphasis on skill development, football fundamentals, fitness and conditioning, teamwork, sportsmanship and decision making skills that will help them thru life. Practices held Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and games on Tuesday when league play begins. A minimum weight of 65 lbs. is required; there is not maximum restriction; however, players over 135 lbs. may not advance the football.

ADULT ACTIVITIES
Adult Flag-Football League Meeting
(Ages 18 and up)
Shake off the grass from your cleats - it's time for flag football! Call your friends and put your dream team together for some great fun and exercise. This ia a 7 vs. 7 league (though rosters are unlimited) played on 80 yard field at the Memorial "C" Field. Games will be held o Monday and Wednesday nights. Participants must be 18 years old by October 1, 2010 to play. Anyone interested in this league should attend the captains' meeting.

Adult Tennis Tournament
The Southern Pines Recreation and Parks Department will offer an adult tennis tournament this fall for men's and women's, singles and doubles. This tournament is open to everyone, but we are only accepting the first 8 players (or doubles pairs) to register for each tournament so don't wait! Each tournament will be single elimination with a consolation bracket; playing ten-game pro sets (first to win 10 games wins, must win by two games). Casual players are encouraged to register!
NOTE: Not a USTA Tournament.
Pre-Registration is required and ends on October 7, 2010.

Adult Golf Lessons
Adult golf lessons will be offered Thursdays in September at Knollwood Fairways in Southern Pines. Each lesson will focus on a different golf skill (driving, putting, chipping and long irons). Lessons will begin September 2nd at 6:15 pm and last approximately 45 minutes. Players of all skill levels are encouraged to register. This is a great way to learn the basics for beginners, or improve skills for veteran golfers alike!

Industrial Basketball League
Organizational Meeting
A Men's Industrial League will be offered again this winter. A team representative must attend this meeting to determine interest in the program. Important information such as fees, rules and regulatons, and dates will be discussed. Game dates and times will vary depending n the number of teams in the league, but will range from Monday - Thursday evenings at 7:00, 8:00 or 9:00 pm.
