2010 Parent/Mentor High School Police-CSI Academy
11/23/2009
High School Citizens Police Academy / CSI
For High School Students and their Parents/Mentors
The Southern Pines Police Department will be conducting a Citizens Police Academy for High School students along with their Parent / Mentor from January 14, 2010, to March 4, 2010. This is a great opportunity for High School students to participate in a meaningful activity with their Parents / Mentors at the same time meeting Police Officers, Telecommunicators and Support Staff who serve and protect our community. Classes will be held on Thursday evenings from 6:00pm-8:00pm at the Southern Pines Police Department, 801 SE Service Road, Southern Pines.
The intent of the Academy is twofold: first to give participants a “behind the scenes” look at how the department operates, and second, to build closer bonds with the citizens in our community. This program does not train individuals to become police officers but will give those students who are considering a career in law enforcement an opportunity to see what police work is all about. For those attendees who are not considering a law enforcement career, this program will be a great opportunity to learn about police work in a fun, relaxed atmosphere while strengthening the bond between the Parent / Mentors and their H.S. Student. Highlights of the program include demonstrations by the K9 Unit and Special Teams, as well as Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) techniques. Throughout the program, students will process a mock crime scene and present their case to an independent panel for review and the issuance of a simulated arrest warrant. Class participants who are 16 years of age or older will be afforded the opportunity to ride with an Officer while on patrol.
