The Southern Pines Police Department conducts a Citizens Police Academy for High School students along with their Parent / Mentor. This is a great opportunity for high school students to participate in a meaningful activity with their parents / mentors at the same time meeting police officers, telecommunicators, and support staff who serve and protect our community.
Classes generally are held on Thursday evenings from 6-8 p.m. at the Southern Pines Police Department:
450 W. Pennsylvania Ave.
Southern Pines, NC 28387
The intent of the academy is twofold: first to give participants a “behind the scenes” look at how the department operates, and second, to build closer bonds with the citizens in our community.
This program does not train individuals to become police officers but will give those students who are considering a career in law enforcement an opportunity to see what police work is all about.
For those attendees who are not considering a law enforcement career, this program will be a great opportunity to learn about police work in a fun, relaxed atmosphere while strengthening the bond between the parent / mentors and their high school student.
What They Do
Highlights of the program include demonstrations by the K-9 unit and special teams, as well as crime scene investigation (CSI) techniques. Throughout the program, students will process a mock crime scene and present their case to an independent panel for review and the issuance of a simulated arrest warrant.
